No promises I will actually make it away from the river or whatever hi-jinx have taken me on the day but does anyone have any recommendations of lower order bands that are genuinely worth checking out?

It would be helpful to mention your music taste. I know, I know ... metal. But what exactly you're into? :)

I am as example extremely glad to see Pillorian on list. That's new band from John Haughm - ex Agalloch. Interesting music.
There are some other smaller names, like shade empire, harikiri for the sky, schammasch, dekadent ...

Smalles newcommers stage have also some interesting names like Oubliette, Winterhorde ... but those aren't really low order bands. Still interesting enough for me to compete with headliners from biggest stages.

I considered giving a detailed insight into my musical taste but then realised that I can't explain it! I don't really have a taste as such

As a general rule, I like bands that you can have a headbang or a bit of a dance too
